The underlying reasons behind human illnesses. When a human body’s nutrition levels are low, it experiences hunger and seeks food to produce the nutrients it requires. A person will never receive all of the nutrients from the food simply by eating it. A person’s body can only get nutrition from the food he eats if it is properly digested. Only when a person is truly hungry will the glands that digest food be released.
The food will fully digest and provide the body with all the nutrients it needs to function if it is properly chewed and combined with saliva before swallowing. Digestate food waste will be expelled from the body following digestion. If the digestion cycle is completed correctly, the body will receive all of the nutrients it needs. The body will be able to eliminate the food waste with ease. The body will be robust and healthy when it has all the nutrients it requires and is free of waste. Ultimately, no illness will develop in such a functioning body.
Indigestion and constipation are the underlying causes of the majority of human illnesses. Constipation or a digestive issue can cause any disease to develop in a person’s body, even if they do not have any bad habits.
Thiruvalluvar, the great Tamil sage, said in Tamil, “Marundhena vendavaam yakkaikku arundhiyathu, atrathu potri unin” (Kural 942).
This is Kural’s statement: “If you are aware of whether or not food you have already eaten has been completely digested, assess your current level of hunger and modify your diet accordingly; there is no need for medication to keep the body functioning.”
When Thiruvalluvar uses the term “medicine,” he does not mean the contemporary synthetic chemicals used in current drugs. He is only referring to the herbs used in his lifetime that will never bring any harm. Thiruvalluvar asserts that no disease will strike us if we eat after hunger and digest it properly, negating the need for medication.
